How to thrive in Nigeria’s Pharmaceutical Industry

The other struggles being faced in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical industry is that it is over-regulated by government agencies, creating a knock-on effect of increase costs of production. The agencies relevant to this are: the Nigeria Customs Service, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), NAFDAC, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), and National Security Agencies (NSA). The other thing hindering success in the sector is the fact there is inadequate space for shipments to release the finish products and raw materials required. There are a few Nigerian companies that have still managed to overcome these challenges and prosper in today’s market, one said company is Greenlife Pharmaceuticals Limited.

Greenlife Pharmaceuticals was founded in 1995 by Dr Obiora Anthony Chukwuka and Chief Ebere Peter Nwosu, its now expanded a distribution network spanning all the country’s six geopolitical zones, with over 500 employees and more than 75 pharmacists. The focus of the business is selling affordable medications, the bulk of them being WHO-approved anti-malaria medication. The portfolio spans to antimalarials, anti-infectives, anti-inflammatories, anti-helminthics, anti-hypersensitives, laxatives and multivitamins. Many of their goods are available in other areas of West Africa and the world moreover.

Some of their popular brand products are:

  • Antimalarials (Lonart-Ds, P-Alaxin)
  • Pain Relief (Lofnac 100, Felvin 20)
  • Bacterial Infection Treatment (Clamoxin)
  • Muscular Aches and Pain Relief (Power Heat)
