NAFDAC Destroys Harmful Products Worth N10 Billion in Gombe, Ensuring Public Health Safety

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) recently destroyed harmful products valued at N10 billion in Gombe. These products, seized from six states in Nigeria's North-east region—Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Taraba, Gombe, and Yobe—were disposed of in a bid to protect public health.

During the event, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, represented by the Zonal Director, Kenneth Azukwe, highlighted that the destroyed items included food, drugs, and other regulated products. She emphasized the agency's ongoing efforts to ensure that only safe and quality products reach consumers.

NAFDAC's commitment to safeguarding public health is evident through its rigorous standards, regulatory frameworks, and the hard work of enforcement officers who diligently intercept and confiscate dangerous items. Adeyeye noted, “NAFDAC is dedicated to ensuring the safety of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, and packaged water consumed in Nigeria.”

This destruction exercise sends a strong message to those attempting to sell substandard or counterfeit products. NAFDAC remains resolute in its mission to protect Nigerians from harmful goods by implementing advanced technologies and enhancing surveillance.

NAFDAC's efforts have garnered international recognition and collaborations with leading global health organizations. The agency continues to adapt to new challenges in public health by utilizing cutting-edge technology, meticulous inspections, and robust enforcement.

Gombe’s NAFDAC Coordinator, Mr. James Agada, revealed that some expired products were voluntarily handed over to the agency, underscoring NAFDAC’s commitment to protecting lives. Additionally, Gombe State Commissioner for Health, Habu Dahiru, praised NAFDAC's actions, noting that they have significantly contributed to reducing disease spread in the region.

This recent exercise serves as a clear demonstration of NAFDAC's dedication to ridding the market of substandard, falsified, and harmful products, ensuring a safer environment for all Nigerians.
