BIOGRAPHY
Pharm Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, FPSN, FPCPharm, FCAI, is the Registrar/Secretary to the Governing Council, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN). His appointment as Registrar/Secretary to the Governing Council, PCN was approved by the Governing Council at its Special meeting held on April 07, 2022 at the PCN Head Office/Registry, Idu, Abuja.
Until his appointment as Registrar, he was the Director and Head of Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) Department at the PCN Head Office/Registry. Prior to this, he held several positions in the service of PCN including being a member of the management team since 2004 till his assumption of duty as Registrar/CEO.
In the PCN, he served as Chief Pharmacist and was Head of Department, Registration and Licensing (2004 - 2009), and Deputy Director and Pioneer Zonal Officer-in-charge PCN Abuja Zonal Office (2009 - 2011) before been posted to head the PRS Department. While he served as Head of PRS Department, he got promoted to the rank of a Director with effect from January, 2013. At various times, he served as Head of Secretariat for many strategic Ad hoc Committees of PCN.
Before joining the PCN in 2004, he was with the Niger State Civil Service where he rose through the ranks from Pharmacist Grade 1 in 1994 to the position of an Assistant Chief Pharmacist. During this period, he served in various hospitals in the state. At different times, he was posted to General Hospital Mokwa, Rural Hospital Agaie and later General Hospital Minna with a stint at the Central Medical Stores. He went through these positions with calmness, maturity and focused disposition.
He was awarded Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (FPSN) in 2015 and Fellow of the Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy (FNAPharm) in 2022. He has served the PSN in various capacities such as Council member, member of various Committees of PSN National, Chairman, Electoral Committee in two previous Annual National Conferences (2018 and 2021) where elections were held for the position of President of PSN alongside other members of the Executive Committee, an assignment which he delivered with his team excellently. Earlier, he was elected to serve PSN as Secretary of Abuja branch (2010 - 2012) during which time he was also a member of the Council of PSN.
He is a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists (AHAPN) in 2015, Excellent Service Award as well as Appreciation Award, all given by AHAPN National in 2018 and 2021 respectively.
As a Fellow of the West African Post Graduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) for Seventeen years, he is a resource person for Part II students of the College. He has also supervised several Dissertations for students of WAPCP leading to award of Fellowship and has been a Preceptor for Pharmacy Residency program in the PCN. He is also a Fellow of Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria and has served as a Resource Person for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCTA) for stakeholders in the Business Services Sector (Health Care).
Pharm Ahmed has attended several courses both locally and internationally including ASCON’s Advanced Management Course, Executive Management Course of the West African Management Development Institutes Network (WAMDEVIN), training programmes of the Centre for Management Development (CMD), Executive Strategy Programme of the Lagos Business School (LBS), Quality Service Delivery and Acculturation also of the LBS, Leadership and Management in Health of the University of Washington, Policy Development and Advocacy for Global Health and Monitoring and Evaluation for Global Health both of the University of Washington, Strategic Management and Leadership in Health of the Amref International University, Nairobi, Kenya; participated in trainings on Human Resource for Health, Supply Chain Management, harmonisation of training curriculum for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians in the sub-region among many others with the West Africa Health Organization (WAHO) in Ghana, Burkina Faso and Nigeria. Pharm Ahmed has also participated in several Conferences which includes Annual Conferences of PSN, Technical Arms of PSN, FIP World Congress in Abu Dhabi, UAE(2019) and Spain(2022) ,Annual General Meetings and Scientific Symposia of the WAPCP in Ghana, Liberia, The Gambia and Nigeria, International Conferences on Family Planning in Rwanda and Nigeria and numerous others.
Ha has participated in the development of several national policies of the Federal Government such as National Health Policy, National Drug Distribution Guidelines (NDDG), National Vaccine Policy, Snake Bite Policy, Human Resources for Health Policy among others along with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH).
Pharm Ahmed has been Head of Pharmacists for the Federal/ National Medical Team for Hajj for several years with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria since 2009.
Pharm Ahmed is a Pharmacist Consultant and Administrator who also holds Masters of Business Administration (MBA) of National Open University of Nigeria and currently pursuing Master of Science(MSc), Supply Chain and Logistics Management from Heriotwatt University, Edinburgh Business School. He is married to Hajiya Rakiya Ibrahim Ahmed and blessed with six(6) children.
